Foss Cottage
National award winning Foss Cottage Foss Cottage created the opportunity for Code Green Pty Ltd to design a truly unique home showcasing the past by transforming an abandoned house into a loved home. The transformation of this abandoned house into a home was more than just a facelift, it was more like a resurrection. Due to the dilapidation and after demolition of the unsafe walls, only the 1st storey sandstone façade remained. It was extremely important that the Façade be restored to its original 1870 period. All existing materials were to be assessed to minimise wastage, maximise recycling and to enhance the sustainability of the development in a holistic fashion. The reuse of much of the original components of the dwelling enabled the breathing of new life into old bricks, sandstone, and old Oregon beams. All were reborn, the old bricks were transformed into an internal feature wall complimenting the hand crafted staircase. The remaining sandstone was exposed internally, bringing the past into the modern internals. The Oregon beams, were made into furniture. The seamless integration of recycled materials within the home reflected the dedication and professionalism, taken by those who designed it. The dwelling incorporates two main assets, the past and the present. A smooth seamless link internally and externally was created that transitioned between the past and present of the house flowed through this design. An abundance of natural light flow was then created through a combination of full height rear windows and skylights. Large opaque glass wall panels were incorporated into each bedroom with oversized doors expanding the flow of light further. Open plan design with recessed horizontal mirror panels incorporated along the entire internal walls throughout the house create the illusion of a larger space and also reflect and enhance further light flow. The client requested a garden, but wished to maximise the floor space ratio. They also requested that the old external bathroom be included in the new modern design. This was all achieved by the construction of roof top garden on the external attached bathroom, visible from the second bedroom window. Designer Constructions Group Pty Ltd, who built this house prides itself on its reputation to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Throughout the process the visual impact of the final product is never compromised, nor is the quality of workmanship.
